Physics Concepts
Kinetic Energy (KE): Energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion. Potential Energy (PE): The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position relative to others, stresses within itself, electric charge, and other factors. Simple Machine: Any of the basic mechanical devices for applying a force, such as an inclined plane, wedge, or lever. Lever: A simple machine consisting of a rigid bar pivoted on a fixed point and used to transmit force, as in raising or moving a weight at one end by pushing down on the other. Inclined Plane: A plane inclined at an angle to the horizontal. Mass: A property of a physical body. It is the measure of an object's resistance to acceleration (a change in its state of motion) when a net force is applied. Ideal MA: How much further distance you have to push due to using a tool. No ratio because it’s a unit. Velocity: Rate of covered distance in a direction. Measured in meters per second. Wedge: A piece of hard material with two principal faces meeting in a sharply acute angle, for raising, holding, or splitting objects by applying a pounding or driving force, as from a hammer. Electrical Energy: Used to move charged particles through a wire from a power plant to our homes and businesses. Electricity is used to work various appliances in our homes. Pulley: A machine consisting of a wheel over which a pulled rope or chain runs to change the direction of the pull used for lifting a load. |
